The pageant scene just got real!
Former model and stylist, Delano Sweeting—the man behind the country’s most beautiful ambassadors—was recently accorded the Miss Earth Bahamas pageant franchise and announced that applications would be available to contest the 2013 crown.
His company, the Bahamas Beauty International (BBI), will now manage the Miss Earth Bahamas franchise, honing and preparing Bahamian pageant queens to compete against beauties around the world.
With extensive knowledge and experience in fashion and the pageant industry, Mr. Sweeting has traveled the world, working with and for some of the best pageant systems and trainers. Later, Mr. Sweeting founded BBI and is taking what he learned and experienced to make The Bahamas a true contender.
Despite sharing the stage with other competitive pageants, the Miss Earth franchise owner is not stirred by a little rivalry. Mr. Sweeting is poised to take the Bahamian pageantry to the next level.
“I have always performed with a ‘Go for Gold’ mentality. The desire to motivate, protect, guide and nurture the inner and outer beauty of positive young ladies is always present in my life,” he said.
Mr. Sweeting has styled and coached an impressive roster of beauty queens, including the latest Miss Teen Bahamas Yamease Swain, Miss Universe Bahamas Celeste Marshall and Miss Earth Bahamas Brooke Sherman, who will be passing on the crown and title later this year.
Reflective of the “phenomenal” past year, Ms. Sherman said having the opportunity to represent the most wonderful country on God’s green earth with dignity, class and pride was an unforgettable experience.
“I have been a servant to my community in every sense of the word. This year got off to a great start and I know that as my year comes to a close, I will continue to make a great impact throughout the length and breadth of my beautiful country, as Miss Earth Bahamas,” said the Grand Bahama native.
The young lady that Ms. Sherman passes the crown to must have a strong sense of self, understands her purpose and sets concrete standards. According to Ms. Sherman, the Miss Earth queen is beautiful, mature, strong-willed, yet open-minded, self-less and has a passion for service.
“The absolute best for Miss Earth is a young woman, who believes in giving her best and confidently exuding poise no matter how stressful or difficult her circumstance is. If she can walk worthy of the crown, then she would definitely be the best fit for the role of Miss Earth,” she said.
Before there is a crowning however, applicants must first get through next month’s open calls. As part of the preliminary round of competition, potential contestants will have to highlight their personalities, individualism and style.
“Each contestant will be given a chance to shine bright and, at the end of the pageant, the brightest diamond will be recognized,” Ms. Sherman said.
